A rare 1953 birch and brass drop-leaf coffee table by Milo Baughman for Murray Furniture.

Solid birch construction with dynamic figuring throughout, especially notable on a top section. Features gleaming blade-like brass aprons and swing-out drop-leaf supports. They’re complemented by handsome full-length brass hinges, revealed when the leaves are down.

An earlier work by Baughman that displays the foundational elements of his signature minimalist take on mid-century modern design: a timeless aesthetic, clean lines, and a striking union of wood and metal.

Produced for only one year by Murray Furniture, which was part of Winchendon Furniture, the Massachusetts-based company responsible for producing many of Paul McCobb’s designs, including his iconic Planner Group. The solid materials and excellent craftsmanship of this piece make its pedigree immediately apparent.

Dimensions:
Height: 15.13 in
Width: 68.13 in
Depth: 22.25 in
Width is with both leaves up; each leaf is 11 inches wide.

Condition: Good Refinished. Wear consistent with age and use. Table originally produced in black lacquered and natural wood finish. One offered here was originally black, and has been professionally refinished to match natural wood option. Some evidence of this is visible on the leaves as slightly darker spots.
