A late-1960s Scandinavian modern teak roll-top secretary desk with pull-out writing surface and multiple drawers by Egon Ostergaard for Svensk Mobelindustri of Sweden.
Lockable cylinder-shaped roll-top features a striking bookmatched veneer geometric diamond pattern with mirrored border. It lifts up to reveal an amply sized pull-out writing or work surface, above which are three small drawers with black pulls and five variously-sized cubbies. They’re perfectly suited for organizing and stowing desk accessories and the myriad electronic accoutrements of modern life.
Below are three roomy dresser-sized drawers—the top one of which is lockable—with hand-carved recessed wood pulls. Displays attractively figured bookmatched teak veneer on top, front, sides, interior, and work surface. It’s a very handsome and well-crafted mid-century modern piece with the versatility to serve multiple purposes in a variety of interiors, especially when limited space is a factor.
Stands on wood legs and stretcher stained to match the warm tone of the teak. Back is finished in masonite board. Interior of back is marked “14 Golden 0322 / Made in Sweden”, and underside of frame retains a paper label with the Svensk Mobelindustri logotype above the model number 528, and alongside the serial number 150801.
Includes two original keys—one with brass finish, the other with chrome—that work in either lock.
Dimensions listed are of the piece as it appears in the primary image, and include the front edge of the writing surface which protrudes .75 inches. Writing or work surface is H 28 in. x W 33.75 in. X D 17 in. with a D 9.38 in. overhang when fully extended.
