A very well-executed and uncommon 1950s French wall mirror with verdigris bronze lashed twigs surrounding the frame.
Realistic cast bronze twigs or branches on each side are lashed or bound together at the corners with wrapped wire elements. Muted verdigris finish has naturally burnished spots that attractively reveal the underlying bronze.
Features fantastic dimensionality throughout that invites one to view and appreciate it from multiple angles. Calls to mind more stylized designs by Diego Giacometti.
Underlying frame with matching verdigris finish appears to be steel or iron. Hangs via a doubled-up heavy gauge wire at top that visually echoes the wire-wrapped details on the corners. Has a very substantial weight that reflects its materials and methods of construction.
Dimensions overall…:
Height: 33.75 in Width: 23 in Depth: 3.25 in
Mirror frame is H 24.25 in. x W 18.88 in.
Condition: Good
Wear consistent with age and use. Twig elements and frame in very good vintage condition with some minor marks and scuffs. Mirror appears to be more recent, and has chips on its top right and bottom left corners that are only slightly noticeable when in use; could be easily replaced.
