Antique Marquetry-Top Card or Game Table on Turned Wood Base, circa 1900

$2,250.00

A very well done circa 1900 marquetry top card, game, or occasional table with striking turned wood base. Fantastic craftsmanship on display from top to bottom, starting with a satinwood and fruitwood veneer marquetry pattern comprised of a field of three-dimensional-looking stepped cubes bordered by zig-zags, chevrons, and bars. Boasts more than 3,800 intricately cut and precisely laid pieces, resulting in an impressive design that dazzles the eye from every angle. Beautiful top appears to have been successfully married a bit later in life to the incredibly handsome 19th century French or French-style turned mahogany base. Wonderful forms sculpted to exacting standards, notable for the prominent central finial that rises from within a distinctive ring that sits atop the stretchers. Arced lower legs stand on nicely done bun feet. Dimensions overall..: Height: 27.13 in Width: 24.25 in Depth: 24 in Base is W 18.75 in. x D 18.25 in. at the ends of the legs. Condition: GoodAdditions or alterations made to the original: Top and base are believed to have been joined post-initial fabrication at some point in the past. Wear consistent with age and use. Top: bit of minor veneer lifting and light surface wear confined to center field; a few slightly darker spots, most noticeably on border of center. Base: a few tiny marks/nicks near feet. Structurally sound, but top has tiny, brief jiggle if jostled.
