Arts and Crafts or Mission Copper-Top Oak Side Table or Plant Stand, circa 1920

$2,350.00

A circa 1920s Arts and Crafts movement or Mission style oak side table or plant stand with copper top. Round 1.25-inch-thick wood top completely clad in a single sheet of hand-shaped copper. A 1-inch-thick seamless wrought iron band sits inset just below, reinforcing the base where it meets the top, and providing a subtle yet striking design detail. Oak features a rich reddish mahogany-like stain. Stands on four sturdy 1.63-inch-thick legs with X-shaped gently arced stretchers. Base boasts skilled woodworking throughout, with mortise & tenon and pegged joinery, and only a single screw visible on the underside of the stretchers. Four clips secure the base to the top. Displays very handsome and desirable authentically earned antique character from top to bottom. Photos with the white wall background were taken in natural light; remaining photos were taken under studio lighting. Dimensions: Height: 28.5 in Diameter: 18.13 in Condition: Good Replacements made: Four metal clips and screws that secure top to base appear to be newer replacements. Wear consistent with age and use. Top: various amounts of patina and mostly small spots/marks; arrested split (from fabrication?) with a screw left. Base: darker patina on stretcher, feet; some dings/chips, only two being notable; couple tarnish spots on iron; metal glides worn off.
