Baker Furniture Hollywood Regency Verre Églomisé Square Coffee Table, c. 1950
$750.00
A very striking and uncommon circa 1950 Hollywood Regency square coffee table with gold and silver leaf verre églomisé top by Baker Furniture Company.
Inset glass top is reverse painted with a lovely Italianate foliate-motif scroll border in fine black line work and off-white fills. It’s set against a gold leaf background that surrounds the mirror-like silver leaf central area.
Asian-style wood base with overhanging roundover edge top, inset round nose edge below that, and handsomely shaped stretchers. Finished in Baker’s recognizable semi-opaque buttermilk lacquer wash with intentional character added via tiny dark speckles and other techniques.
Retains most of its original Baker Furniture decal label on underside, alongside the model number “1984”, which is both printed and handwritten.
We see matching levels of verre églomisé paint and leaf loss on many other vintage Baker Furniture tables with the same or very similar scroll patterns, leading us to wonder if it might be intentional in order to simulate an antique appearance rather than due to age or wear.
