A 2021 extra-large figurative painting on cut-out masonite board by Santa Cruz, California-based artist duo BEARPAD (Patrick Stephenson and Jordan Fickel), titled “Ken + Rob, signed, and dated.
Features two huge nude dudes—endearingly referred to as “bubs” by the the artists—in an affectionate and manly embrace. Cut-out masonite board finished in pink spray paint with red speckles throughout. Hand-done black line work and painted white hash mark hair details imbue the whimsical figures with a very charming and joyful animated look.
Signed, titled, and dated in the artists’ hand on the back. One of two such BEARPAD artworks that we have available, with the other offered in a separate listing.

“BEARPAD is a coupla bubs. Scrappy queer art with an emphasis on physicality and affection. Masculine, relaxed bodies expressing casual desires. Cozy gay vibes. Santa Cruz based, our work is influenced by queer history, DIY ethics, and psychedelic aesthetics. BEARPAD is Patrick Stephenson and Jordan Fickel.”
As a solo artist, Patrick Stephenson has been making art as BEARPAD for the past ten years or so. Joining BEARPAD in 2021, Jordan Fickel has helped BEARPAD grow into a bigger presence in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.
