Dragons on the legs are especially striking, with prominent human-like bearded faces at the shoulder and foot, and highly textured scales running the length. Intricacy and technique of the carving suggests a southern China origin. Piece originally had an ebonized finish throughout, much of which remains in a way that accentuates the detail and depth of the carving alongside the attractive naturally acquired antique character that speaks to its nearly two-century-old age.
