A large and impressive early 20th century Chinese Qing dynasty era hand-decorated lacquered and giltwood five-tier wedding dowry travel cabinet with carved wood and cast iron elements.

Comprised of five removable lacquered boxes with oxblood interiors that feature a lively hand-painted dragon motif and gilt geometric patterned border on all four sides, with the top of the uppermost one displaying a very intricately done floral and scroll design on a black ground.

Boxes are housed in a substantial black lacquered wood frame with stained and painted hand-carved elements, gilt A-frame sides, blackened metal mounts and brackets, and wrought iron carrying handle and rings.

A fantastic statement piece with 360 degree appeal, a fascinating history, and the ability to serve as a unique piece of functional storage for one’s most prized possessions, wedding-related or otherwise.
