Dan Johnson for Hayden Hall Maple Chest of Drawers, 1946–47

$4,800.00

A rare 1946–1947 mid-century modern three-drawer chest or dresser in maple by Dan Johnson for Hayden Hall. Early piece in a prescient contemporary-looking minimalist geometric style specific to a collection he did for Hayden Hall. Represents an angular aesthetic seldom seen in subsequent designs by Johnson, who’s best known for his curvaceous and iconic Gazelle chairs and tables. Three drawers with extra-thick edges that complement the top, side elements of the inset middle drawer, and recessed front portion of the base. Finished in beautifully figured maple veneer throughout. Dimensions: Height: 30.13 in Width: 30.63 in Depth: 19.88 in Drawer front heights are as follows: top 8.5 in.; middle 7 in.; bottom 10 in. Condition: Good Refinished. Wear consistent with age and use. A slightly darker stain on top. Dings to bottom left and right front corners of top drawer were decently touched up in the past, likely at different times. Some light wear on drawer edges, with some visible filler. Veneer chip at back left filled in.
