An utterly charming and quite uncommon 1951 Scandinavian modern teak and oak drop-front secretary desk or vanity from Denmark.

Front drops down to serve as a nicely-sized work surface. Upper section with a mirror-backed door with brass pull at left opens to reveal a small felt-lined drawer and cubby. At right are two more small felt-lined drawers with brass pulls, with a small cubby at center and a larger one below.

Lower section features three drawers with solid teak half-moon pulls and dovetail joinery. Body supported by externally-mounted solid oak tapered legs and stretchers that give the piece a fantastic and distinctive atomic aesthetic.

Displays handsomely figured and richly toned bookmatched teak throughout. “Made in Denmark” stamped on back at top left and right, with “51” handwritten at top center denoting the date of manufacture.

Drop front and top drawer have brass locking mechanisms, though the key is no longer extant. We’re searching for a replacement, and will update the listing should we find one.
