Marbro James Mont Style Chinese Archaistic Tall Brass Table Lamp, 1950s

$1,100.00

A towering 1950s Chinese archaistic-style brass table lamp by the Marbro Lamp Company, done in the manner of James Mont. Striking interpretation of a three-footed archaic ritual bronze from the Shang or Zhou dynasties. Such vessels furnished the tombs of China’s elite, and were used to hold offerings of food and drink for ones’ ancestors. Crafted to Marbro’s typical high standards in the style of Hollywood Regency designer James Mont’s chinoiserie-inspired work, with an eye for proportion and flair for the dramatic. Stands on a trio of graceful, petal-like legs around an open interior. Each features a Greek key-embossed border that’s repeated around the top collar. Distinguished by a finely detailed and well-executed central ball-shaped form that’s reminiscent of a particular style of Chinese archaic vessel known as you. Hand-applied faux-bronze finish from top to bottom, with hints of green patina handsomely highlighting the line work. On ebonized turned wood base. Elongated brass stem retains Marbro Lamp Company label. Original dual sockets with brass ball pull chains that echo finial. Original fittings and oversized shade. Inline switch on cord controls both lights simultaneously. Dimensions of lamp to top of finial are H 42.5 in. x Dm 7.75 in.. Overall dimensions including shade are H 42.5 in. x Dm 18 in. In handsome vintage condition. Some small, superficial marks to finish reveal brass underneath; they're mostly on back (where cord exits) so less noticeable. A tiny mark/light wear spot on ebonized base. Natural patina fittings. Shade with tiny spots.
