A wonderfully kinetic abstract expressionist composition depicting a herd of majestic mustangs running free under the moonlight. It’s comprised of a multitude of complex, expertly layered, single-color screen print passes, with a detailed looseness that invites closer inspection.

Numbered at bottom left, titled at bottom center, and signed at bottom right, all in pencil. Paper mounted on board. Presented in original painted frame and reverse-mounted gesso-washed burlap matte over board.

Painter and print maker Dorothy Bowman lived and worked primarily in Big Sur, California, alongside her husband, artist Howard Bradford, as well as author Henry Miller. Her award-winning serigraphs have been exhibited worldwide, and are in a number of permanent collections, including those of the Los Angeles County Museum, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and the Smithsonian Institution.
