A circa 1920 Art Deco gold painted solid plaster sunburst decoration with gilt metal-framed mirror from an upscale movie theater or playhouse. A classic décor element rendered in clean, timeless style, with a very dimensional rectangular sunburst motif surrounding a 4.63 inch diameter flat round mirror set behind a gilt metal frame. Finished in what appears to be its original muted gold paint, with subtle tonal variations and patina further adding to the sculpt’s nice sense of depth. Believed to have originally adorned an upscale movie theater or playhouse. We can envision the mirror as emulating the lens of a projector or spotlight, with one’s reflection at the center of the golden rays emanating outward. Was originally mounted via holes on either side of the mirror, which have been camouflaged more recently by removable vintage patinated brass embellishments. It’s conceivable that these holes could be repurposed to run wiring through for light fixtures. Black painted wood backing is likely more recent as well. Dimensions Height: 17 in. Width: 22.75 in. Depth: 1.13 in. Condition good. Additions or alterations made to the original: A pair of removable vintage brass embellishments have been added to hide the original mounting holes, and to further secure the black painted wood back which was added after the decoration was removed from the wall for added protection and stability. Wear consistent with age and use. In very good antique condition overall. Plaster shows no notable chips or paint loss. A tiny bit of wear in two spots to the gilt finish on the metal frame around the mirror.
