Pair of Tall Wrought Iron Andirons with Parrot and Chameleon Motif, circa 1880 ***SOLD***

A circa 1880 pair of French extra-tall wrought iron andirons with a delightfully unusual parrot and chameleon motif that suggests a colonial African or Indian inspiration or destination. Impressively crafted and lively handwrought form topped by a screeching parrot head on an imposing twisted pike. Stylized fleur-de-lis anchors the base, while traditional scroll work organically incorporates the coiled tails of a pair of chameleons that watch over either side. Another twisted iron rod connects the front to the firewood-supporting rail in back. H 36 in. x W 16.75 in. x D 29 in. In quite handsome antique condition. Typical amount of natural and even patina throughout, w/ more signs of use including tarnish, ash residue, and very minor scaling on rear supports as would be expected.
