A very handsome and hard to find earlier version of Palecek’s Art Deco-style rattan and leather President’s loveseat or two-person sofa.
Unlike the currently available version that has integrated magazine racks and cupholders on the arms, this prior iteration retains the clean lines and perfect proportions of the original design.
Multiple pencil pole rattan elements fully surround the pole rattan frame and legs, giving them a great look that’s accented by wrapped leather bindings. Side, skirt, and ergonomically-angled back feature vertical pairs of pencil pole rattan lashed together with hand-woven rattan cane. The predominantly linear look is perfectly tempered by subtle, gracefully executed curves in all the right places. Finish is Palecek’s “Antique Brown”.
Loose seat cushions are a supple top grade chocolate brown leather that’s acquired a nice amount of natural character, making it difficult to walk past this piece without feeling compelled to take a seat. Considering that this line by Palecek is a faithful replica of the custom furniture used by FDR on his yacht, the USS Potomac, during his presidency in the 1930s, its timeless design, superior quality, and inviting comfort should come as no surprise.
