Stuart, Monumental Mid-Century Modern Abstract Oil Painting, 1964 ***SOLD***

An exceptionally large and impactful mid-century modern abstract oil painting on canvas signed and dated “Stuart 1964”. A riotous visual explosion of shapes & lines that leaps off the canvas with complex and captivating chaotic energy. Shades of grey accented by black, with punches and pops of plum, orange, and sherbet-toned variations of both. Everything looks especially great set against the clean, stark white gessoed background. Displays confident looseness and control of medium that rewards examination from a multitude of distances. Many instances of thickly applied paint provide great dimensionality, especially when viewed from different angles. Signed and dated “Stuart ’64’” at top left. We’ve thus far been unable to identify the artist, but will update this listing if and when we do. Edges finished in raw muslin tape. Dimensions: Height: 60 in Width: 49.25 in Depth: 1.63 in Condition: Good Wear consistent with age and use. In very good condition. Art w/ minimal small, light signs of age. Muslin tape peeling off/fraying in spots, mostly on top, with a tear and dirt marks at top left; looks fairly easily restorable. Possible tiny old patch on verso; not visible on front.
