A pastel over watercolor impressionist ocean landscape titled “Molokai Dream” by American artist John Anthony “Tony” Sheets (b. 1942).

Cool pastels, crosshatched and layered in deceptively complex interplay over a watercolor base, depict a sunset-lit beach on the Hawaiian island of Molokai. A transportive scene rendered beautiful and other-worldly by the California-based artist’s skillful use of color.

Tony Sheets is the son of renowned artist, architect and teacher Millard Sheets (1907–1989). Tony Sheets was Director of the Fine Arts Building at the Los Angeles County Fair, renamed in honor of his father as the Millard Sheets Center for the Arts at Fairplex. The elder Sheets was Director of Art there from 1931-1956.
