A pair of circa 1940s Chinese hand-carved giltwood Foo Dog or Guardian Lion small statues or figurines.

Wonderful craftsmanship with the hand-carving that has gone into this pair, from the paws stepping on an upturned little monster on one, and something in the style of a ball on the other, to their necklaces holding a mask in the front on each, to their flowing, curly mane.

Foo dogs/guardian lions symbolize prosperity, success, and guardianship. One is female, the other is male. The female represents yin, and symbolically protects the people dwelling inside the home, while the male statue, representing yang, protects the structure itself.
